Raphael to Cherie: “What I'd give for just another minute to spend with you”
The death of La Primera Contravida Cherie Gil on August 5, 2022 sent a shockwave to the Philippine showbiz industry.
Many of her adoring fans mourn the death of their prized idol who became an icon for her role in the hit movie Bituing Walang Ningning as Lavinia Arguelles.
But Cherie's death is particularly more painful for her children, who lost a kind-hearted and supportive mother.
One of her sons, Raphael Rogoff, took to Instagram last weekend and penned a moving love letter to remember his mom, Evangeline Rose.
He also shared a couple of throwback photos with her. Raphael began his post saying, “You were a gift to this world. You touched every life that you came across, whether through the silver screen, on stage, or in person.”
“To your most prized fans, you were Cherie Gil, La Primera Contravida. To some, Evangeline Rose; or perhaps Cheech. To me, simply, Momma--my homie. What a luxury.”
Raphael then went on to tell the things he learned from his beloved mother.
“You were a light that filled every room with pure warmth and bliss.
“Your laugh, wit, and humor, resonated deeply with all who had the pleasure of basking in it.
“You taught me to love unconditionally and bathe in the beauty of emotions; to appreciate every moment, big or small, happy or sad.”
Clearly, he is still hurting, but Raphael promised her to continue on with his life.
He also thanked his mom Cherie for the greatest gift he received from her.
“What I'd give for just another minute to spend with you--No amount of time would ever be enough. What I'd do to see you crack that unforgettable smile of yours; the one that radiated with so much joy.
“When I think of home, I will always think of you; carrying you with me always. Thank you for the greatest gift I could've asked for; this life, and your love.
“For you, I will continue to dance to the music of life. For both of us. Just like we promised.”
The multi-awarded actress has two children with Israeli violinist Roni Rogoff: Raphael and Bianca.
Her other son Jay Eigenmann is her child with Leo Martinez.
