Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel may have been struggling with her Filipino roots, but still, she always felt a connection with her Pinoy dad, Remigio Bonsnon or R.Bon, and revealed that she's actually a daddy's girl.
In an interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, R'Bonney said she was named after her dad when he and her mom Dana could not decide on how to combine their names when they were naming her.
“My dad kinda won that battle and I was named after him, R'Bonney, so I'm kinda [the] female version of his name,” she said.
She added, “I am a daddy's girl. I feel like I have [a] lot of my dad's characteristics though, he's funky, he's got a sense of humor, he's very daring, and will try things, so [he] and I have bonded a lot over the years.”
R'Bonney, however, clarified she loves her mom, too, and described her as “reserved” and that she loves both of her parents equally.
Manifesting her Miss Universe win
Even before she was crowned Miss Universe 2022, her dad had already claimed the crown for her when he declared that she was going to win the competition even before it started.
The Filipino-American queen said that her dad has been saying to everybody that she will win and she felt that they should not tell people yet as the competition has not even started.
“But he was just such a confident father, he would tell everybody, he would come to my apartment and just sweep my floor like...but he would write down on little papers and put them on my refrigerator like words of encouragement or that I was already Miss Universe because he believed it so much,” she added.
