Maximize the use of your laptop with this maintenance tips!

Given how expensive electronic gadgets and how essential it is these days, it is a must that we learn how to properly maintain them. By doing so, not only are we ensuring prolonged usage of such devices, but we are also getting to save hard-earned money.

It is for this reason that GMANetwork.com asked tech vlogger Alvin Villanueva of YouTube channel Alvin Tries Tech for tips on how to care for your laptop and other gadgets.

A post shared by Alvin M. Villanueva (@alvintriestechyt) on

Stop hoarding files

According to Alvin, one way to maintain the performance of a laptop is by deleting files that are no longer use because it ends up taking too much space in your device.

He explained, “Madalas tayo mag-download ng mga files, mga movies, mga documents, and nakakaligtaan natin natatamabak sila. Minsan, nawawala na sila sa loob ng laptop natin. Of course, it eats up memory, katulad ng cellphone 'yan, mas babagal at mas babagal ang laptop ninyo kapag puno ang memory niyan.”

The tech vlogger suggested checking every month for files you no longer need in your device.

Anti-virus software is a friend

Alvin also reminded laptop owners to update the anti-virus software they use.

An anti-virus software, according to Webroot.com, is a program or set of programs that are designed to prevent, search for, detect, and remove software viruses, and other malicious software like worms, trojans, adware, and more.

Check if your laptop needs cleaning

If you have been using your laptop for years, it is good to have it checked in a computer shop for some spring cleaning.

Alvin says that this is a common mistake of computer owners who tend to forget that their laptop needs some cleaning not just outside, but also its internal hardware component.

He said, “Karamihan sa atin 'yung mga laptop natin 'pag nabili nila, hanggang sa masira, 'yun na 'yun. Ang maintenance natin sa laptop kailangan dinadala natin siya for cleaning, either for six months to one year.”

Subjecting your laptop to cleaning ensures that its components will run smoothly and avoid some wear and tear.

“It helps in improving the lifespan of your laptop as well as the performance kasi 'pag madumi 'yan, you are unaware, 'yung loob ng laptop mo, 'yung fans niyan mahihirapan gumana, 'yung mga internals niyan mahihirapan gumana."

Water is enemy

Get that mug away from your laptop

In an article posted on computercpr.com, it said that "while it's easy enough to replace a desktop keyboard, a laptop keyboard is integral to the rest of the system and sits directly atop critical components. That said, spilling liquid on it will likely require you to buy a new computer."

Better safe than sorry so keep your mug and glass away from your laptop.

Lifespan

Nothing lasts forever and even if you have given your gadgets some TLC, overtime your laptop will break down or it will be so outdated that certain programs will not work anymore.

“Of course, it varies per person, para sa akin ang pinaka-average talaga when using a laptop is around four years. Especially 'pag nahanap mo 'yung tamang laptop. Tulad ng sinasabi ko, if mali 'yung laptop na nabili mo or you are overworking your laptop mapapa-aga-aga ang buhay niyan," Alvin ends.
