Kinumpirma ni Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairwoman Liza Diño-Seguerra na nagsinungaling ang production team ng 'Oro' tungkol sa pagpaslang ng isang aso sa pelikula.
Isang matinding kontrobersya ang bumabalot sa 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry na Oro matapos itong batikusin ng mga netizens at animal rights advocates patungkol sa brutal na pagpatay ng isang aso sa isang eksena sa pelikula.
Ang pelikula na dinirehe ni Alvin Yapan ay isa sa major winners sa MMFF awards night na ginanap nito lamang December 29, 2016.
Sa katunayan, inuwi ng Oro ang award for Best Ensemble Cast at Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence. Samantala, ang aktres naman na si Irma Adlawan ay nanalong Best Actress.
Sa Facebook post ng Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairwoman na si Liza Diño-Seguerra kahapon, January 3, ibinahagi niya ang naging resulta ng pagpupulong sa pagitan ng MMFF Executive Committee, mga representatives ng Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) at production team ng Oro.
Dito kinumpirma ni chairwoman Diño na nagsinungaling ang production team ng Oro patungkol sa marahas na pagpaslang sa isang aso na napanood sa kanilang pelikula.
“The representative of ORO who was present during the EXECOM screening of ORO admitted to lying to us and those present when she said they used a goat and prosthetics during the dog scene. They said it was out of panic.”
Hiniling din ng PAWS ang immediate pullout ng Oro sa mga sinehan at pagbawi sa mga awards na natanggap nito.
Ngunit, hindi ito agad na napagbigyan ng MMFF Executive Committee.
“Much as we want things to be decided on right then and there, Please understand that as a committee, we need to reconvene and discuss all these new information before we arrive at a decision. Hindi rin po madali sa amin ang pagtimbang ng Lahat ng mga bagay-bagay and at the same time, alamin kung ano Lang ang saklaw namin as an execom: what sanctions can we explore and can we implement? This needs to be discussed thoroughly by the committee.”
Binigyang-diin ni FDCP chairwoman Diño na maaaring humarap sa mas marami pang sanction ang mga tao na nasa likod ng Oro dahil ilan sa mga rules ng MMFF ay nilabag nito.
“The possible Violation of the Animal Welfare Act is up to the courts to decide should PAWS pursue the case…. On our end, it is obvious that MMFF rules were violated because of ORO's misrepresentation. This could subject them to specific sanctions from the committee.”
