Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez dismissed his political opponents’ claim that he is covering up illegal drug operations in Western Visayas.

In his Facebook post, the actor reacted that dragging his name in the drug controversy for the first time is “politically-motivated and very malicious.”

His defense, “I have been an anti-drug advocate all my life. I spearheaded a massive anti-drug campaign back in the '90s, way before it became a fad, before most everyone wanted to join the bandwagon.”

During the 2016 elections, his anti-drug platform aligned with President front-runner Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s campaign, and it eventually got him elected as the Mayor of Ormoc City, “a place so infected by drugs for many years.”

“To fight drugs and bring change” is his primary reason why he ran for office, and it is also the reason why the locals voted for him.

He called out, “Do not drag me into this circus, I was never part of it. I will never be part of it.”

Gomez asked the legislators to hold further investigation on the false accusations thrown at him. He has also filed a case against Mayor Jovie Espenido “who has attempted many times to besmirch my name.”
