Pia regrets that they never got to see her win the crown but she acknowledged that they are part of her victory.

May 19 holds a special place in Pia Wurtzbach’s heart as this was the day her grandfather was born and also they day her grandmother passed away. As her day draws to a close in New York, she spends time recollecting their memories together and recognizing the legacy and values they have left with her.

Pia recalled that she was able to give her grandparents’ grave a visit before flying to Las Vegas for the Miss Universe pageant. She said she regrets that they never got to see her win the crown but she acknowledged that they are part of her victory.

Her post also gives us a view of her grandparents’ theme song written in their grave.

Before I flew to Vegas for the competition, I was able to fly to Iligan City for literally a full day. I was finally able to visit my Lola and Lolo's grave and I prayed and prayed. I'm a little gutted they never got to see their apo crowned.. But more than that. Lolo, thank you for your patience and understanding with all of us in the family. I know we were a crazy bunch. I admire you for being so strategically smart and goal oriented that you were able to open the buko (coconut) bar in Iligan City and its still in business up to now, all to support the family. Thank you for being so sweet to Lola. We know she was always a tough cookie. But I would still catch them in little kilig moments before, and my cousins can attest to this. And Lola, thank you for teaching all the women in our family (most of us are women in the Alonzo side) to be strong and fearless. To know that we should never settle for less and that women should be treated with respect. Thank you for making me proud to be a Filipina. Matapang, matalino at may takot sa Diyos. I am a product of the values you both instilled in our mothers and now in me. That's their theme song written there. May forever naman pala, kung makakahanap ako ng tulad ni Lolo. ?????? #May19 Salamat sa gabay. Mahal ko kayo.
