Are Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia ready to take on the newest roles of their lives - parenting?
January started out with a bang for young couple, Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia. This 2008 they’ll be playing a new role in the drama of life. But before the baby comes, let’s take a look back on the issue that startled the country. Text by Alula Love M. Dela Cruz with interviews taken from Chika Minute, Startalk and Showbiz Central. Mauricio A Positive Attitude News flew over the Metro as Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia confirmed the news that they are indeed expecting a baby. stars In an interview with Chika Minute, the two were spotted over Judge Selma Palacio Alaras office in Makati. Here Patrick delivered the news of Jen’s pregnancy and their future plans, “Jennylyn is six weeks pregnant, I wanted to set things right sana, get married and panagutan siya. But the judge said we should get married for the right reasons dapat.” The two have decided to neither get married nor live together, Jen also decided to take a break from the industry while Patrick focuses more on his career, after all he is going to be a father, “Importante naman kasi yung health ko and noong baby, so family muna. Kami munang tatlo” says Jennylyn. They might have chosen to start a family earlier than normal, but from the looks of it the couple is happy with their decision, “Siyempre we can’t lie to the public naman. We can’t hide this, it’s so impossible to hide this. We are not ashamed of it, in fact we’re proud of it and we take it as a blessing" Patrick explains. He also adds that he believes parenting is an on-the-spot thing, you learn it while you’re in it “I think nobody is ever ready unless nandoon na yung situation, if you ask me of course I’m not ready but I’m going to prepare to ready for it.” Mother-to-be Jennylyn Mercado shares the same sentiments, “Happy naman kami sa desisyon namin, sana supportahan nila pa rin kami. Nangyari naman to for a reason and I’m sure yung reason na to magiging maganda to for us. Wala naman ibibigay sa amin si God na hindi naming kaya eh.” The Pregnancy Like any other young pregnant couple, they were both scared the moment they found out that they were having a baby, “Sabay naming chi-neck. Takot muna yung nangibabaw, kaba, nerbyoso lahat na” as Jennylyn recounted the day she took the pregnancy test. “Pareho naming nalaman at the same time. Una naming inisip kung kanino namin unang sasabihin, mas nangibabaw yung kaba kasi it wasn’t planned. Before jumping for joy iisipin mo kung ano yung sasabihin ng [mga manager at mommy namin]” reveals Patrick. And like any other parent, shock was the initial reaction, “Yun yung normal reaction di’ba ng mother, sobrang magagalit so parang natakot din ako for him (Patrick)” shares Jen. stars Now that everything seems to have settled down for these two love birds, Patrick and Jen have grown to be closer as they experience the world of expecting a baby. Jen is already experiencing the symptoms of pregnancy, getting mood swings and craving for food,“Pizza, tapos sandwhich [saka] spaghetti parati, pasta parati.” They’ve also talked about the sex of the baby and the names they want, Jen admits that she wants their first born to be a girl, but Patrick prefers a boy. He even has a name for their soon to be son, “Request kasi ng Dad ko, kung boy daw named after him” says Patrick. Life may have taken a different turn for this couple with this sudden change of lifestyle. But Jen and Patrick are ready to face the challenge of the biggest coming roles of their lives.
