Nothing goes to waste with this unique sisig recipe that uses banana peel from saging na saba as ingredient.

The banana peel is rich in phytochemicals and contains nutrients such as potassium, essential amino acids and fiber, including pectin.

Pectin is a dietary fiber which helps improve gut health. It is known to treat digestive issues such as diarrhea, constipation, and ulcers.

Meanwhile, potassium aids in regulating blood pressure levels, protects against bone loss, and reduces your risk of developing kidney stones.

And as you may already know, amino acids are the building blocks of protein and play a key role in the vital processes in our body such as synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters.

And unlike their non-essential counterpart, essential amino acids are not produced by our bodies and can only be obtained through what we consume.

Therefore, it's really important to include them in your diet, and the banana peel is among the great food sources of these nutrients.

Now you have two options for making good use of banana peel: use it for your DIY fertilizer or use it as an ingredient in cooking up a yummy dish such as sisig.

In a recent episode of Pinas Sarap, Chef Chona Laurete showed how the make a healthy version of sisig using the peel of a cardava banana or plantain banana, or what we call in Tagalog the saging na saba.

If you want to try meatless version of the Pinoy favorite sisig at home, below are the ingredients and procedure.

Ingredients:

banana peel from a ripe saging na saba

paprika

garlic powder

onion powder
