In a review published on its website on Friday, October 30, Goldwin Reviews shared its assessment of the film, highlighting its humor, clever writing, and entertaining take on the world of beauty pageants.
“Kahit wala kang alam sa mundo ng beauty contest, siguradong matutuwa ka sa kalokohan at kakulitan ng pelikulang ito,” the review stated.
“Witty ang script. Bawat level ng pageant competition ay nilagyan ng twist.”
Goldwin Reviews also praised how the film incorporated references to the different territories represented by the candidates and connected them to the challenges in the movie's Queen of the Islands pageant.
It further noted how the story incorporates the cast members' real-life issues into its narrative, adding another layer of humor and entertainment.
“Pinag-isipan ang costume portion. Bestseller concept yung ginawa sa bangus. Konektado ang pangalan ng ciudad sa kanilang kasuotan. Pinaglaruan ni Michelle Dee ang kanyang isyu sa totoong buhay. Maraming references na meta at benta,” it added.
While the review did not shy away from pointing out the film's shortcomings, it acknowledged how the story manages to recover from its weaker moments. It also expressed excitement over the possibilities of a sequel.
The review also commended the performances of the film's ensemble cast, emphasizing that the movie is not just a battle of beauty queens but also a showcase of acting talent.
“Hindi lang ito beauty contest. Labanan din ito ng aktingan.”
Goldwin Reviews highlighted the individual strengths of the cast, praising Sanya Lopez for delivering her performance "with grace and composure while still conveying her emotions."
Ashley Ortega was commended for her intensity, while Herlene Budol stood out for her fearless and naturally funny portrayal. Faith Da Silva also earned praise for her fierce performance.
Meanwhile, Ahtisa Manalo was recognized for turning her character's weaknesses into strengths, with the review noting that the role suited her particularly well. "The role is made for her — and she delivers what's required of her with flying colors."
Ruffa Gutierrez was praised for maintaining her poise throughout the film, while MJ Lastimosa and Ariella Arida brought "their own brand of charm and fabulousness to the screen." The review also expressed hopes of seeing more of Haley Dizon in future projects because of the acting potential she has shown in the movie.
Michelle Dee's line delivery was described as occasionally stiff, although she managed to rise to the occasion in crucial scenes according to the review. AZ Martinez and Shuvee Etrata also had their standout moments, with the review suggesting that greater variety in their delivery and facial expressions could add more depth to their performances.
Beyond the cast, Goldwin Reviews praised the film's unconventional concept, which was developed by GMA SVP and GMA Pictures President Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes (AGV), with Dominic Zapata at the helm.
“Seeing the beauty queens doing comedy and deglamorizing themselves is such a delectable treat you'll never want to miss,” the review remarked.
It also credited AGV for coming up with the story and concept, describing it as "one of the most refreshing ideas GMA Pictures had in years." It also suggested that the Kapuso top executive "should come up with more out-of-the-box concepts like this one."
The review likewise recognized the screenplay by Kit Villanueva-Zapata and Ken De Leon for bringing "the story to life through clever wordplay and playful turns of events, blending comedy and pageantry."
