It’s Christmas time once again. It has been a GMA tradition to come out with a fun but meaningful Christmas plug for our beloved audience. This year is no different. iGMA takes you behind the scenes of this star-studded gift from GMA Network. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Xylen Geecel Alamo and GMA Network. ‘Pag may namamasko sa ‘yo, Kumakatok sa iyong puso. I-abot lang ang kamay, Pagmamahal mo’y ibigay. ‘Yan ang diwa ng Pasko. Ang regalo ng mga Kapuso. The lyrics for this year’s Christmas plug capture the holiday’s fun and frolic but it also emphasizes the importance of gift giving. Not just any gift, but a gift which comes straight from the heart. Thus the title, Regalo ng Kapuso. The song was sung by no less than Jolina Magdangal. Candy de los Reyes, writer for the PSD (Program Support Department) of GMA, and also the lyricist of this year’s theme song tells us how it all began. “Christmas is the best time to spread random acts of kindness” she says and continues, “Yung original idea [is] as [a] Kapuso, we are blessed with big hearts. Not just to give tangible things pati ‘yung spontaneous blessings. ‘Di lang sa friends pati ‘yung sa strangers.” In the plug, we see the GMA stars bonding and having fun with ordinary folk. This is GMA’s way of showing their gratitude for the support that the audience gives to the network and its various shows, films and other projects. Director Paul Ticzon, who is also behind the most recent station ID, shares how he was able to visualize the theme for this season. “Alam mo naman ngayon ‘yung panahon natin, all the bad news, lahat ng problema. We don’t need the drama anymore. Happy, happy, basically.” Second Director Vincent Gealogo reiterates direk Paul's comment and reveals how their team overcomes obstacles such as, the limited time frame to finish all the work and the logistical nightmare of getting all the Kapuso stars together. “We are known as the ‘Titans’. We started off with the SID [Station ID]. We actually push ourselves to the limit every time we do a project.” Kapuso stars like Marian Rivera, Ding Dong Dantes and Richard Gutierrez were, of course, used to being filmed. But what about, the big bosses of GMA, the likes of Mr. Felipe L. Gozon, Chairman, President & CEO; Mr. Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., Executive Vice President & COO, and Mrs. Wilma V. Galvante, SVP, Entertainment TV Group? Were they difficult to direct in front of the camera? Director Paul Ticzon answers with a chuckle, “Game na game sila! Walang problema doon!” The theme for this holiday season is, gift giving with meaning. GMA Network has received many blessings this year, consistent top ratings, blockbuster films, awards and many more. The Christmas plug shows our gratitude.
