Filipino talent and the excellence of Philippine cinema once again took center stage as the film Republika of Pipolipinas earned a Special Jury Citation in the Asian Film Competition at the 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival in India.
The announcement was made this Saturday, February 7, through the film's official social media page
In a social media post, the team expressed their gratitude: “Maraming-maraming salamat sa 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival sa India sa paggagawad ng Special Jury Citation sa Republika ng Pipolipinas sa Asian Film Category!”
The announcement concluded with a playful nod to the host country: “Mula sa mga Pipolipino, namaste!”
The film was directed by Renei Dimla, one of GMA Network's senior writers. She immediately took to social media to express gratitude for the honor received by the film.
“So honored that Republika ng Pipolipinas was recognized with a Special Jury Citation in the Asian Film Competition of the 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival!” Renei wrote in her caption.
Renei also extended their appreciation to everyone involved in the project, most notably the dedicated cast and crew.
“As always, my endless gratitude to our awesome cast and crew headed by Pres. Ge Villamil and all the people, Pipolipinos and Filipinos alike, who helped us bring our film to life. Namaste!” she said.
Republika ng Pipolipinas is a mockumentary that revolves around the struggle of Cora Vitug. After the government attempted to seize her property, she decided to establish her own micronation, Republika ng Pipolipinas, right in her own backyard as a form of protest.
Prior to its screening at BIFFES, the film was an entry in the 21st Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival in 2025. It also served as the official Philippine entry to the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival held this past January 2026.
