New Kapuso star Richard Yap has shared some of the life lessons he learned during the coronavirus pandemic, particularly about the importance of saving money.
In an interview with GMANetwork.com, the actor-entrepreneur TV heartthrob said that he also felt the severe effect of the pandemic like many of us.
“In 2020 kasi there were so many businesses that shut down. Nothing really lasts forever.
"Ang hirap ng buhay if something like this happens,” he shared. “I guess you should have a lot of savings. You should be able to save for the rainy days, especially this one was a rainy year.”

Aside from saving, Richard likewise shared that he has learned to see the real value of things during these trying times.
“Nakita mo 'yung 2020 hindi nga tayo lumalabas. Minsan sabi ko 'yung ibang tao ang daming kotse. Anuhin mo 'yung maraming kotse hindi ka naman makalabas. Ang dami mong kotse na magaganda hindi mo naman magagamit. Other people buy so much branded stuff pero hindi mo na rin magamit during this time,” he said.
The 53-year old actor then offered an important advice: that to manage your finances effectively, you should be able to resist buying unnecessary luxury items.
“These are things that we can do without. Stick with the basics, stick with the good quality stuff maybe,” he said.
“Hindi kailangan na gumastos ka in things like these because at the end of it all hindi mo rin kailangan.”
Meanwhile, since the pandemic has cost him his job, the actor said that he's eager to work rigorously this year.
“I plan to back to working really hard this 2021 because 2020 was really…wala talaga. There was no work, business was so bad. So we want to make up for 2020 and do everything that we can in 2021,” he added.
Now, as a new member of the Kapuso family, he is willing to maneuver his path with all his might to meet his fans and team's expectations of him.
“Well, I think you'd expect me to do a lot of other genres aside from the romcom if given a chance, and of course, I give everything my all for the Kapuso fans and the Kapuso family,” Richard said.
Meanwhile, aside from improving himself, he is also stern on enriching people's lives by being a better person.
“This 2021, we should be doing everything that we should have done in 2020 but better. Treat other people better, do things better, work harder. Those are the things that we should keep on doing. We should improve ourselves, and we should improve the lives of people around us also,” he added.
Richard inked a management contract under GMA Artist Center last December.
