Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco explains meaning of song title “214.”
Musician Rico Blanco explained in a vlog the story behind his former band Rivermaya's hit song “214.”
He started the video with a little trivia about the song, “Isa siya sa mga kantang nasulat ko bago ko pa nakilala 'yung mga ka-banda ko sa Rivermaya.”
“It's one of my earliest hits, napakaraming versions na rin ng '214.'”
“Over the years, tinatanong ako ng mga tao, 'Ano ba talaga 'yung meaning nun?”
He narrated how he tried to find a suitable song title from the song lyrics.
“I couldn't find anything in the lyrics, “Forever by your side was too cheesy.”
“Am I real” was the best bet. Tinitignan ko, two slash one sa title, tapos 'yung first line, 'Am I real' Na-notice ko na two letters 'yung Am…so yun na muna 'yung working title niya, '214,' Am I real.
“Na-print na 'yung album namin at hindi na kami nakaisip ng better title. Over the years, marami akong naririnig na bagong theory kung anong meaning ng '214.'”
He also encouraged people to give their own interpretations of the song title. “I want to hear kung meron pa kayong ibang meaning ng '214' para sa inyo, gusto ko mabasa lahat ng 'yan.
"Whatever meaning you want to attach to our songs, nasa inyo na 'yan.”
