One-time Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco took to social media today to celebrate a milestone for one of his most popular songs, “Antukin”.
In one of the more recent posts on his Instagram account, Rico uploaded a throwback photo of himself along with a screenshot of the Spotify page for “Antukin”. The “Antukin” screenshot had the text “50 million streams” on top of it.
In the caption to the post, Rico shared that he played all of the instruments for “Antukin” to give it a less polished sound compared to the other songs on the 2008 album Your Universe, which featured amazing session artists, according to Rico. The lyrics were also meant to be nonsense, but the singer-songwriter admitted that he failed in that regard as the song still ended up having meaning.
Despite being a “throwaway” song that was made without pressure, Rico wrote that “Antukin” became one of the songs that his fans ended up liking the most. He then concluded the caption by writing that it's never good to second guess the audience and that artists should go with their gut instead.
This is just the latest piece of good news that Rico has received over the past few weeks. Just last month, he and bandmates Bamboo, Mark Escueta, and Nathan Azarcon held a successful reunion concert at the SMDC concert grounds. Some of the celebrities who attended the event were Mark Escueta's wife, Jolina Magdangal; Sparkle actress Shuvee Etrata, and Rico's girlfriend, Maris Racal.
It was also just last month that Maris recalled some of her “kilig moments” with Rico Blanco on Dr. Vicki Belo's vlog “Food Crawl and Maris Racal and Rico Blanco's Love Story”.
In the vlog, Maris described the first two years of her relationship with Rico as the “happiest years” that she has ever experienced.
