Roger to Rafael: “Never underestimate a great champion.”

“What a match!” This is how Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer described the historic win of Spanish champion Rafael Nadal in the grand finals of the 2022 Australian Open beating Russia's Daniil Medvedev. Nadal's win makes him the first man in history to win at least 21 Grand Slam titles.

Before playing in the finals of the Australian Open, Rafael shared his thoughts about this moment on Instagram saying, “At the end of the day, life is about happiness and what makes us happy. For me it's also about having the chance to do what I do, play tennis.

“I feel alive in terms of my tennis life, of my tennis career and I am super happy to be again in the final of the Australian Open. I'm happy that I'm gonna have a chance,” he added.

As of now, Rafael has 13 French Open titles, a record as well. He also has four US Open trophies and two each for Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Roger took to Instagram Story to congratulate his friend and rival for this huge feat. He stated, “To my friend and great rival @rafaelnadal. Heartfelt congratulations on becoming the first man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. A few months ago we were joking about being on crutches. Amazing.”

The tennis champion added, “Never underestimate a great champion. Your incredible work ethic. Dedication and fighting spirit are an inspiration to me and countless others around the world.

“I am proud to share this era with you, honored to play a role in pushing you to achieve more. As you have done for me for the past 18 years. I am sure you have more achievements ahead but for now enjoy this one.”
