Ronnie Henares remembers Bert De Leon

Brilliant comedian Ronnie Henares talks about his 'Pepito Manaloto' family and the wonderful moments he got to spend with their beloved late director Bert de Leon.

Versatile actor and director Ronnie Henares has etched himself in Philippine TV history with his comedic portrayal of Ronnie Henares in Pepito Manaloto.

Fans both young and old loved his performance in the multi-awarded sitcom that is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month.

In a chance interview with Direk Ronnie, he told GMANetwork.com why he loves working with the brilliant team of the flagship Kapuso sitcom.

He shared, “The Pepito Manaloto is an actual family! No matter how early I get up, it takes me a long time to get ready. So, I get up two hours before I have to leave the house.

“My day starts two hours before I leave, which is at least another two hours before my call time. So my days start four hours before my call time more or less.

“But it's never tiring to go to the show. First of all, we have a very comfortable room, where you can actually take a shower, where you can actually sleep.”

Direk Ronnie then fondly recalled his time with the show's late director Bert de Leon, who passed away in 2021. He also talked about his close-knit group in Pepito Manaloto called 'The Big Boys.'

“And number two, we always have a lot of kuwento. Ang dami naming kuwento diyan, it is never enough time with these guys. And everybody is so funny! It's also nice to get to know each and everyone of the people I get to work with. Not only on the show, but it's nice to get to know them personally. Knowing their hurts, knowing what makes them laugh, knowing what they like.

“So much so that 'yung grupo namin ng Pepito boys- we call ourselves 'The Big Boys.' That's of course Bitoy, si Bert de Leon, bless his soul, wala na po siya sa atin, Arthur Solinap, John Feir. We call ourselves The Big Boys. Si Jake [Vargas] kasi, small boy yun, e [laughs.]” Ronnie said in jest.

“So itong Big Boys na 'to we do things together like we love to eat! So before, when Bert de Leon was alive, we would have biking sessions and we meet each other in BGC. Magbi-bike kami dun, 'tapos kakain kami. We'll have a great time. Now, since me and Bitoy are into golf, what's happening now is John Feir and Arthur have also started to play golf. So, we have golf days maybe once every two weeks at least. It's so much fun to be with them."
