Rufa Mae Quinto exudes a glowing new aura nowadays. Is it because of that new haircut or the beautiful dresses that hug her shapely body? Or is it her new project co-hosting Whammy with Paolo Bediones? Whatever is making her shine, it has got to be something beyond the physical. Text by Jessa Ericka C. Bien. Photos by Mitch S. Back in the primetime scene with an air of authority and comedy to match,
Rufa Mae hosts the newest game show in town,
Whammy! Push your Luck! with the veteran show master,
Paolo Bediones. As she carries over her funny character, she also dons a new character as the show’s game master.

“Nag-step up na ang career, in fairness. Nagma-mature” Rufa quips. “Masayang-masaya (ako) and flattered ako na nagtiwala rin sila (GMA) sa’kin” she adds, expressing how good she felt to be picked as
Whammy’s host. “Ibang-ibang Rufa Mae (ang makikita dito)” she promises.
Paolo, her co-host, likewise observes: “I think … maraming magugulat because hindi ito 'yung kilala nating Rufa Mae. Nandoon 'yung funny, siyempre, hindi mawawala ''yun. Nandoon 'yung mga one-liner niya, pero more importantly, nandoon 'yung authority.”
As the game master,
Rufa Mae has to know the rules and regulations by heart; and this she did by trying the game herself. “Pinapaintindi nila sa’kin 'yung instructions. Naiintindihan ko naman pero iba 'yung naiintindihan mo sa talagang alam na alam mo, magkahulihan man, magkabolahan man” she remarks.
Moving Up
For
Rufa Mae, shifting gears is indeed a good sign of maturity for her as a showbiz personality and a person. “Kasi nga tapos na 'yung
Booba days ko. I was 20 (years old) noong ginawa ko 'yun eh, siempre ngayon hindi naman pwedeng 'yun pa rin ang ginagawa ko” she explains.
“Pero siyempre, kinabahan din ako kasi … ngayon parang mas may authority and at the same time, I’m with Paolo Bediones” she says.

It is
Rufa Mae’s first time to work with Paolo, but she admits being very comfortable with him already. “Nagkakaintindihan kami. We hardly see each other, pero everytime we see each other, may sense 'yung usapan.”
Their good chemistry also shows on-screen as both hosts feel for each other. “Ang bilis nga naming magpakiramdaman kasi minsan 'yung mga script ko hindi ko na natutuloy, titingin lang ako sa kanya, siya na magtutuloy. 'Yung parts naman niya ako (ang) nagtutuloy” she shares.
Eager to show the new side of her to the people, Rufa Mae invites everyone to tune in to
Whammy! every night. “It’s a funny game show (na) bukod sa pamimigay ng prices at cash, may character na parang cartoons (pa). Kakaibang game show siya na tiyak na bago sa paningin ng audience.”
