He may not have been crowned as the grand winner of
Protege Season 2, but young Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid had his fair share of TV and film projects in the past year. He starred alongside Barbie Forteza and Derrick Monasterio in
Paroa: Ang Kuwento ni Mariposa, played the role of Marian Rivera's younger brother in
My Lady Boss, has done two indie films,
Above the Clouds and
Bamboo Flowers, and is currently a member of
Sunday All Stars' Team Tweet Hearts.
GMANetwork.com caught up with Ruru in GMA Artist Center's
Playlist: League of Artists Musical Recital event last July 18 where he talked about his character in Bamboo Flowers and how it feels to film an indie movie.
"Pampamilya talaga, may mga eksena ng mag-lolo. Talagang nakakaiyak, at mai-inspire talaga kayo.
He also talked about his character in the said film. "I am a folk singer and a folk dancer. Basta magagandahan kayo."
He adds, "Itong
Bamboo Flowers, three stories 'to. The first story sa akin, me and my lolo. The second story, 'yung kay Yogo and Mylene, mag-nanay. Pero, at the end, magsasama-sama kami."
Kasi ako, as an actor, parang gusto ko talaga mag-indie. Like 'yung
Above the Clouds. Isipin mo naman, nag-shoot kami sa Mt. Pulag. It was a great experience for me kasi doon marami akong nalaman.
Sunday All Stars, and catch
Bamboo Flowers in SM cinemas from September 7 to 17, 2013. --
