Kapuso actress Ryza Cenon, who has recently ventured into the visual arts, held her first painting exhibit yesterday at Guevarra’s, San Juan.
Dubbed ‘Independencia: Ang Panimula,’ the activity launched her as a self-taught independent artist. After learning to paint in January 2015 from her fan Diane Dequino, she has finished around 50 pieces to date.
“[The year I learned how to paint] was not my good year [emotionally] so parang, [yun] yung way ko para mag-cope, imbis na magparty or uminom,” she said. “Yun yung naisip ko na way para ilabas yung mga negative emotions ko.”
Ryza didn’t have intentions of making her new hobby into a profession until she got a call from Jeka dela Rosa, the Marketing Manager of Guevarra’s. She was then invited to do a workshop for kids, until the partnership flourished into a request for a painting for their wall, and an offer to hold her first exhibit with them.
Raymond Co, one of the restaurant’s partners, shared how impressed they were with Ryza’s art and how it is an honor for them to help launch her as a painter.
“First time kami naglabas ever ng first-time artist. May [mga] exhibit naman before pero iba sa kanila ay known artists. Ryza [is] the first one na celebrity. Kasi aside from [being known for good] food, gusto rin namin [na] may art [dito],” he said.
The StarStruck season 2 Ultimate Female Survivor is overjoyed at the opportunity to finally be able to share her newfound passion to the public.
“Ganito pala yung feeling na mapapakita mo sa lahat yung [mga] creation mo. Masaya kasi nakikilala [ako for something else], not just in acting,” she shared.
Part of her earnings from her paintings will be donated to the GMA Kapuso Foundation. Her work will be exhibited in the restaurant for the whole month of June.
