Saab Magalona and Maxene Magalona are mourning the passing of their grandmother, Edwina Koch Arroyo, mom of the late Francis Magalona's wife, Pia Arroyo-Magalona.
Both Saab and Maxene had beautiful tributes to their 81-year-old grandma on Instagram, who passed away on August 4, Wednesday.
Maxene shared a fun photo of her Lola Edwina with the Magalona siblings.
She captioned it, “Gratitude for Grammy The Great 🙏🏼✨🕊
“We will miss your stories about the past, the lessons you learned along the way, the words of wisdom you selflessly shared, the love you showed your children and pets, the comfort you made your grandchildren feel especially when we were unwell and the devotion you had for God which inspired us to open our hearts and souls to Him as well.
“I am forever grateful that you were my Grammy 🥂
“Rest in eternal paradise Grammy Edwina Koch Arroyo October 12, 1939-August 4, 2021 🌹”
Saab also shared a lovely throwback photo of her younger self with her Lola Edwina, along with some of her e-mails.
Part of her caption reads, “She lived right next to our family's house, ready to look after me and my 7 siblings when our parents were out.
“Our yaya would use her as a threat when we were being difficult (“tatawagan ko si grammy”) and I don't know why that line would instantly make me behave.
“I wasn't scared of her, I just always wanted to be on my best behavior whenever she was around.
“Plus, I knew she would force me to take a nap (she'd say “meh-meh na”) and what child likes naps? (Children are crazy, naps are wonderful.)
“Then I became an adult and we had much more meaningful conversations about life.
“I was always been fascinated by her career (she was a pioneer in advertising in the country), her beautiful home library, and her long e-mails about the most random things.
“Attached is an e-mail I got after I sent her photos of my boys. The next is one she sent to my auntie Erika in 2019. She likes to bcc everyone in her emails.
“I never deleted them because somehow I knew this day would come. I hear her voice in her letters and my collection brings me comfort today.”
Several celebrities and personalities have sent their messages of sympathy to the Magalona family, including Kapuso TV host Ryan Agoncillo, Vice President Leni Robredo, and actresses Janine Gutierrez and Karla Estrada.
