Tipping your hair stylist

Let's settle this debate about tipping once and for all!

The debate on whether or not customers should tip their hairstylist has been going on for a very long time. Some do it, some don't. So we want to settle this issue once and for all.

We asked the opinion of Kapuso celebrities regarding this matter. Read on to find out if they share the same view as you.

What celebrities think

Yasmien Kurdi: “Yes, I do always tip sa nag-aayos, and also anywhere else, lalo na kung walang nakalagay sa bill na service charge.”

Prince Clemente: “Lagi akong nagti-tip eh, sa restaurant man or barbershop.

Bea Binene: “It really depends on your budget at sa satisfaction mo sa service nila.

Jenzel Angeles: “One of my sisters kasi works -- not sa salon -- but as a server, so I know na nakakatulong sa kanila yung tips.

Pero if you can, and you appreciate what the hairdresser did for you, eh di go.”

Valeen Montenegro: “Ako, gusto kong nagti-tip kasi it's a work done on you.

From a salon owner's view

In order to have a different perspective on the debate about giving tips, we also asked Azta Urban Salon owner, Jon Bantigue, for his opinion.

He says, “Should? Well, no, because it's called gratuity, meaning you do it because you're grateful. But when you do, it is also highly appreciated by service personnel.

"Whether you're in a salon or in a restaurant, tipping is always a form of gratitude for good service. Should? No. If I would recommend, yes, definitely.”

The Verdict

The winner of this debate is obviously the “yes” vote. All of the celebrities and the salon owner agree that although it is not a requirement for customers to tip, we should have the initiative to do so.

We should not tip just because we want to flaunt our wealth or avoid criticism from others, but because we want to sincerely express our gratitude for a service well done. And this should not be limited to our hairstylist but also to other service-oriented professions.

So the next time you get your hair done or dine at a restaurant, don't forget to give a tip and more importantly, say “thank you."
