Sanya Lopez says she has a hard time relating to her character ni 'Pulang Araw', "Masyado siyang mapagmahal"
Sanya Lopez is set to make a TV comeback via the upcoming historical drama Pulang Araw, top billed by Barbie Forteza, David Licauco, and Alden Richards.
In Pulang Araw, Sanya will be playing the role of Teresita Borromeo, a vaudeville artist who is taking care of her younger sister Adelina (Barbie Forteza).
Sanya admitted that playing such a selfless character is hard since she prioritizes self-love.
"Masyado siyang mapagmahal, to the point na kaya na niyang i-sacrifice 'yung sarili niya [para lang] sa mga taong mahal niya,” GMA News Online reported, after interviewing Sanya on a set visit in Pulang Araw.
"Hindi mo mapapantayan eh. Ganun 'yung level ng pagiging selfless niya,” she continued.
“Ibang klase 'yung pagmamahal ni Teresita,” Sanya said. “Actually kahit ako eh, minsan ang hirap maka-relate. 'Yung talagang, kaya mong gawin 'yun, Teresita?' Maiiyak ka nalang sa kaniya, ganun.”
“Nandun ako sa may moment na kailangan mo i-sacrifice 'yung mga bagay na 'to for the sake of a great opportunity. Kumbaga, parang mas may magaganda kasing mangyayari pa, bakit kailangan mong i-sacrifice yung bagay na 'to.”
As a single woman, Sanya is firm on keeping her self-worth even when catching feelings for someone. She even shared a quote on TikTok that says, “Sometimes, it's OK to be selfish.”
Sanya explained the quote's significance during her the interview, “[It's] not because gusto mo lang maging selfish, but at the end of the day, ikaw lang din sa sarili mo ang magliligtas sa sarili mo,” she said.
“Sometimes, it's OK to be selfish. OK rin naman maging selfless, pero timbangin natin.”
Pulang Araw shows the lives of four childhood friends: Adelina (Barbie), Teresita (Sanya), Hiroshi (David Licauco), and Eduardo (Alden Richards).
As war tears apart the country and Japanese colonizers occupy the Philippines, they face many hardships together that will test their loyalty as friends.
Among the other cast members include Rhian Ramos and Dennis Trillo in his first official kontrabida role.
Pulang Araw will be shown first on Netflix beginning July 26 and GMA Prime starting July 29.
