Over the past few years, K-pop's popularity has grown exponentially, taking over and sometimes even dethroning big names in the music charts.

Last Tuesday, August 6, MTV announced the nominees for this year's Video Music Awards (VMA) and as expected, several K-pop acts are on the list.

With her recent comeback to the music scene, Lisa of BLACKPINK received a total of four nominations for her latest single “ROCKSTAR”. It was released on June 28, 2024, accompanied by an edgy and cool music video.

Lisa is nominated for Best Choreography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, and Best K-pop.

Aside from Lisa, BTS member Jungkook is nominated for Best Collaboration for his hit debut song “Seven” featuring American rapper Latto. Jungkook is also nominated for the Best K-pop category.

Meanwhile, the five-member girl group LE SSERAFIM finally received their first-ever VMA nomination for the MTV Push Performance of the Year for their hit song “EASY.”

The other nominees for Best K-pop are: “Smoothie” by NCT Dream, “Super Shy” by NewJeans, “LALALALA” by Stray Kids, and “Deja Vu” by TOMORROW X TOGETHER.
