Shamaine and Julia Buencamino

Shamaine Buencamino celebrates her daughter Julia's birthday with “joy and thanksgiving.”

Veteran actress Shamaine Buencamino posted a heartwarming message for her daughter, Julia Buencamino, who passed away in 2015, on her birthday.

In an Instagram post, Shamaine told how Julia was born while their family was having a Christmas gathering and that she ordered one of Julia's favorite foods to celebrate her birthday.

“Celebrating @hoolianabanana I ordered a big pan of lasagna for dinner! Yes, time heals. Today, I don't think of her birthday with sadness but with joy and thanksgiving,” she said.

She then wished her daughter a Happy Birthday, and thanked her for giving their family a reason to “feast on one of [her] favorite dishes today.”

“Rest in peace anak. We love you and miss you always,” Shamaine said and asked everyone to whisper a prayer for her daughter.

Julia passed away in 2015 at the age of 15 from suicide. The young actress appeared in an afternoon series that starred Janella Salvador and her father, Nonie Buencaino, was also part of the cast.

In 2021, the I Left My Heart in Sorsogon actress revealed that she has been keeping a journal to channel her grief. Shamaine also said that by journaling, she was made aware of why she needs to “sit with my sadness,” especially on occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries.

In a previous post, Shamaine also mentioned how she started a live journaling session called Lakbay Lumbay on Instagram, admitting that she was worried about starting the live session until she sees Julia pop up on Facebook memories.

“I always feel it's a thumbs up from the universe. From Julia,” she said.

She added: “Eto anak. Para sa iyo. Para sa mga taong kailangan ng suporta sa kanilang paglakbay sa kanilang lumbay.”

Shamaine and her husband, Nonie Buencamino, have three other children, Gorio, Jose, and Delphine.
