Shamcey Supsup revealed that “discrepancies” in the numbers resulted in the changes that were made during coronation night.

It's been a week since the Miss Universe Philippines organization held its coronation night and crowned a new representative, but it seems like controversy still abounds, with Miss Universe Philippines director Shamcey Supsup-Lee having to clarify things on Instagram.

In the latest post on her Instagram account, Shamcey left a wordy caption explaining the “technical difficulties” that resulted in the pageant's Top 10 reverting back to the Top 18 during the pageant's evening gown competition.

In her statement, Shamcey revealed that she discovered the “highly improbable nature of the numbers” that were provided to the organization by the accounting firm that tabulated the judges' scores. Because of this, Shamcey said that the Miss Universe Philippines board conducted a manual counting of the judges' votes in the presence of the accounting firm and discovered that there was a discrepancy in the Top 10 results.

Shamcey then went on to say that the Miss Universe Philippines organization seeks to “promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of the pageant,” and that all candidates should be given the equal opportunity to compete.

From the comments on the post, it looks like Shamcey's statement has not calmed down frustrated pageant fans. Aside from questioning the lateness of the statement, commenters also questioned the treatment of for Miss Universe Philippines Celeste Cortesi.

The eventual winner of the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 pageant was Michelle Dee, who will be representing the country in the Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador.
