"I have always enjoyed singing. I have applied for the military band that matches me the most." - SHINee's Taemin
On October 7, 2021, Shawols were surprised to see a special video of SHINee member Taemin answering 30 questions as uploaded by the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) of Korea.
The K-pop idol enlisted in the military on May 31, 2021 and is now in his fifth month of service.
In the interview, Taemin revealed the reasons why he applied as a military band soldier.
"I have always enjoyed singing and I am also active as a singer in the society, so I have applied for the military band that matches me the most," he shared.
Taemin applied to the Ministry of National Defense Service Support Corps by sending a video of himself singing.
"I took a video of me singing and applied via the Ministry of National Defense Service Support Corps. I sang a song called Chenyum by Big Mama."
The SHINee member also shared that nowadays he is busy practicing the piano for the military band.
"I play the keyboard, the piano, while I am doing the vocals but I am still lacking in my piano skills and there are lots of seniors who are good at it. I am spending my time learning the piano right now."
As part of a military band, Taemin wants to broaden his spectrum and pull off more variety of songs. He also wants to continuously develop his skills as a performer.
When Taemin asked what his day is like in the military, he answered, "I usually wake up at 6:30 am on weekdays and after eating my breakfast, there will be an assembly before we start our work. And we will listen to the notices passed down by the commander.
"And then we will do our work and eat lunch at lunch time. Then we will do our work again. Then we will eat our dinner and we will have a self-maintenance time," he added.
Doing this constantly, Taemin reveals, made him gain 10 kilograms.
On September 17, the Seoul National Cemetery (SNC) held a regular September concert with the theme 'For Healing,' in which Taemin was part of.
He was one of the seven-member fanfare group who sang "We Are The World" and "Heal The World."
Lee Tae-min, known by his stage name Taemin, is a South Korean singer-songwriter, actor, and dancer. He debuted as a member of SHINee on May 25, 2008.
