Ska singer Skarlet Brown dropped her single “Stay With Me” on Spotlight Music Sessions on Friday, January 1.
Far from the first single she shared on GMA's online music channel, Skarlet describes “Stay With Me” as “a bit dark lyrics to a lighter kind of vibe.” She added that she used dangerous, sugar-coated lyrics and a bossa nova tune.
“The lyrics talk about date rape and I have to write about it but in the lyrics, it's very inspiring because after [a] situation similar to that, the persona in my song, immediately spoke to Jesus Christ,” Skarlet shared in an interview with GMANetwork.com.
She added that the lyrics make it seem that the singer is in front of Jesus Christ, asking him if the singer's pain with the experience they went through is the same as what He experienced.
Skarlet shared what message she wanted the song to impart to listeners, “When you're in pain, nothing is as painful as anything else in the world. But always remember, God endured so much pain to save all of us so our pain is just minuscule even if it feels so much at that moment.”

She reminded everyone, however, to always have faith and assured them that God is with them during the most troubling times.
Aside from singing, after leaving her old band Pu3ka, Skarlet opened up a bar in 2008 to cater to a wider variety of music genres.
She explained, “That's my preference, I'm a fan of music, generally, all of it, so there's Jazz there, Monday Jazz, there's World Music, there's punk-hardcore, like the underground, really aggressive music, and then we are also open to Blues, we had blues gigs and even ethnic and even poetry reading.
She opened a second bar soon after to separate the genres of music that they cater and from these ventures, Skarlet found her love for cooking. Together with professional chefs, they chose and tweaked the food that they offer in both bars.
“Of course, if you're going to have a business, you should first like what you offer. So ganun 'yung nangyari and we have it tweaked by registered chefs,” she said.
Skarlet then expressed her dream of studying culinary someday and having a cooking show of her own.
