With the rise of bajillion-step skincare routines in popularity, a lot of people find themselves skincare-ing the night away all in the name of good skin.
But what if skipping a few steps of your meticulous routine might be the secret for a blemish-free face?
Here are some skincare steps you can skip out on (sometimes) and why it's a good idea to do so:
Skip the moisturizer
Moisturizing is such a key step in every skincare routine and to be told not to wear it just doesn't feel right. But hearing dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi's explanation had us convinced.
According to Dr. Obagi, moisturizers aren't a must and should only be applied to severely dry areas. He adds that using these products slowly kills our skin. See, what happens if we moisturize too much is that our skin becomes dependent on the artificial moisture and produces less natural hydrants.
Instead of moisturizers, Janine Gutierrez prefers using facial oils as she learned from Dr. Vicki Belo. Oils seal the natural hydration in the face which is healthier for the skin in the long run.

Skip the cleanser
Cleansers remove all the dirt, oil, and makeup we accumulate in our faces throughout the day. However, over-cleansing is a real thing that does more harm than good.
When we cleanse out all the nasty stuff, we're also stripping the face of it's much-needed nutrients.
Doing so could lead to dry skin or force our sebum glands to produce more oil.
American actress Bella Thorne, who suffered from severe acne, shared that skipping cleansers in her morning routine actually helped her skin a lot.

Skip the exfoliants
Exfoliating is a great way to remove the dead skin cells to make way for newer and younger ones. But not all exfoliators work the same way.
Beauty guru Raiza Contawi explained that manual exfoliants, such as scrubs, damage the face as it scratches and tears the skin's surface.
Skip the scrubs and instead go for chemical exfoliants like AHA and BHA for your exfoliation needs.
Why you should stop using scrubs to exfoliate your face
Finding a skincare routine that works is more often than not, a trial-and-error process. These tips may have helped others but have no visible effect on you. At the end of the day, we all have to find the products and techniques for our skin's needs.
