Actress Sofia Andres couldn't hide her frustration over the massive flooding that recently hit Cebu after Typhoon Tino lashed the province earlier this week. Through a series of Instagram posts, she extended her support and sympathy to residents who were affected by the disaster, using her platform to raise awareness and echo the sentiments of those suffering in its aftermath.
Cebu registered the highest number of fatalities with 139 deaths, followed by Negros Occidental with 53, Negros Oriental with 16, Agusan del Sur with 6, Capiz with 3, and Southern Leyte with 2. Meanwhile, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bohol, and Leyte each reported one death, bringing the total death toll to 222.
“The Lord said, do not forget. When the storms passed, silence revealed what truly destroys us. Greed,” she wrote.
In an earlier post shared at the height of the typhoon in the Visayas, Sofia expressed that she was praying for everyone affected by the devastating weather.
“Tonight I am praying for Cebu and for everyone who is suffering in silence,” she expressed.
The actress also reposted an Instagram Story to show her solidarity with the people of Cebu, echoing the collective frustration of thousands of users online. The post voiced anger over the widespread flooding, pointing out that despite residents' efforts to prepare, by securing food, emergency kits, and medicine, the corruption in flood control projects has left communities vulnerable.
“Mad because the people have done their part to prepare (food, emergency kits, meds [and] more) but the flood control projects which could have saved us all from this situation are clearly corrupted [and] it is evident!” the post read, ending with a rallying cry: “CEBU BE ANGRY!”
Sofia is among the few celebrities who have spoken up and extended their support following the recent calamity that struck the country. Other stars, including Angel Locsin and Albie Casiño, also expressed their frustration and concern over the situation.
