Jamir Garcia

The single will be made available on September 5, on what would have been Jamir Garcia's 43rd birthday

The family of Jamir Garcia has announced the upcoming release of a single written and recorded by the late Slapshock frontman.

Jamir, according to his brother Kenneth, was planning to release a solo album composed of original songs months before his untimely passing in November last year.

“In early 2020, in one of his emails to us, Jamir intimated that he was ready to release the solo album, having composed and completed enough songs that he would truly treasure and be proud of - songs that would aptly define and genuinely showcase his music as a solo singer-songwriter,” wrote Kenneth.

The songs were written by Jamir “throughout the different stages of his musical life.”

As for its release, the family has chosen to drop the single on Jamir's birthday, September 5. Jamir would have been 43 this year.

The family thanked singer-songwriter and former Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco for helping put together the songs as producer despite the “enormous challenge and responsibility.”

Jamir's former bandmates, Lean Ansing and Chi Evora, and a couple of friends also contributed to complete the project.

“Jamir may no longer be with us here physically but we have his songs to be with him again, to feel him again, to hear him again, to sing with him again, and to love him again,” the statement mentioned.

“His songs will stay forever -- here, with us, and for us.”
