Lee Si-young reveals pregnancy from frozen embryo with ex-husband, says she made the decision alone.
Just months after her divorce, Hallyu actress Lee Si-young announces pregnancy via vitro fertilization (IVF).
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Sweet Home star surprised fans as she confirmed the news.
"The reason why I am telling you this position is because I thought it would be a better way to prevent any misunderstandings and speculations that will happen in the future," she wrote in Korean.
Lee Si-young went on to reveal that the pregnancy was originally their plan during marriage. However, the divorce process coincided with the nearing expiration of their five-year embryo storage period. Either discard or move forward with implantation, the actress came up with a decision.
"Although my ex-husband did not agree with the decision, I have decided to take full responsibility for the choice I made,” she continued. “I just couldn't bring myself to discard an embryo that had been waiting all this time.”
The K-drama star candidly reflected on her marriage and motherhood, sharing that her child was her pillar of strength throughout the most challenging times. It was her love for her children that ultimately led her to continue with the pregnancy.
"There may be numerous difficulties in the future and concerns about the number of cases. But despite all that, I want to believe that my choice is more valuable now," she said. "Right now I'm just grateful for the new life that has come to me, and I'm at peace and happier than ever."
Lee Si-young ended her post with a promise to live responsibly and raise her child with love and care.
Lee Si-young got married in September 2017 and gave birth to her son in January 2018.
In March 2025, her agency Ace Factory confirmed the couple's separation. They stated, "They are in the process of getting a divorce through mutual agreement. As it is the actress's private life, please understand that it is difficult to answer other questions besides this."
Lee Si-young first rose to fame through hit dramas like Boys Over Flowers, Playful Kiss, and the reality show We Got Married. She also made waves in international audiences with her role in the Netflix series Sweet Home (Seasons 2 and 3).
