With the release of her album, Maricris Garcia is about to take the next step in her journey to stardom.
It's been a year since she was crowned Grand Champion in the third year of 'Pinoy Pop Superstar' and with the release of her album, Maricris Garcia is about to take the next step in her journey to stardom. Part of her prize in winning Pinoy Pop Superstar was a recording contract with GMA Records, and a year and much planning later, 'Mahal Kita' is finally released. The album boasts of 12 tracks, only three of which are cover songs. And Maricris says that prior to recording; they had a sit-down meeting wherein she was presented with the song choices to make the album cut. Maricris says that for those who only know her through La Diva, the group where she sings with Aicelle Santos and Jonalyn Viray, 'Mahal Kita' is a great way to find out who Maricris Garcia really is musically. "This is 'yung tipo ng music na gusto ko, kinakanta ko-ito 'yung range ko." Asked which song she likes best from her album, she chooses 'With You'-which she says is the song she thinks describes her music best. "Maganda 'yung rhythm, melody, lyrics, very positive." "Actually isa siya sa mga choices na magiging [first] single," Maricris reveals. "Kaya lang mas prioritized ngayon 'yung tagalog eh. Kaya 'yung 'Bakit Ikaw Pa Rin' 'yung ginamit. Pero hopefully yun 'yung maging second single." With the album's release comes promotion, and Maricris has undertaken her first ever mall tour-alone! The singer admits that she was afraid at first, "First mall show tapos ako lang 'yung artist na nandoon. Kinakabahan ako kung ano 'yung magiging response ng tao. Marami naman [ang pumunta], maganda-ganda 'yung sales ng album-so nakakatuwa. Kahit sobrang pagod na pagod ako." Being tired is a cost Maricris is willing to pay though, to meet her fans. The best part of the mall show, according to her, is when fans come up for the autograph signing. Maricris is happy to meet her fans up-close; "may makukulit, [so] makikipagkulitan ako. Kasi ang sarap ng feeling na makaka-encounter ka ng mga fans na sobrang-may bibigyan ka ng letter, may regalo sa'yo [kahit] ngayon ko lang nakita." And they keep complimenting her! "Usually [they say] ang ganda-ganda mo," Maricris laughs.
