Squid Game

Squid Game is quickly taking over Netflix and here's why:

Netflix's original series Squid Game has a chance of becoming Netflix's most popular show.

The Korean survival drama may become Netflix's most successful original content ever.

This was addressed by Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos. He said in a Code conference in Los Angeles reported by CNET, "There's a show on Netflix right now that is the No. 1 in the world, like everywhere in the world. It's called the Squid Game. Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world, for sure," Sarandos said.

Sarandos, who is also the head of content at Netflix, didn't specify the metric used to gauge Squid Game's popularity. Netflix has ranked the popularity of its original shows by the number of people who watched a show at least two minutes in the first 28 days of release.

If this standard metric was continued, Squid Game could potentially overtake romance series Bridgerton. Squid Game could also overtake French heist series Lupin, which is currently Netflix's most-watched non-English language series and second most-watched series generally after Bridgerton.

Squid Game is a nine-episode series starring Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, and Wi Ha-joon. It tells the story of a group of 456 people who are invited to risk their lives in a mysterious survival game with a ₩45.6 billion (US$38.7 million) prize.

It was released on September 17, 2021 and debuted #4 on Netflix TV Shows worldwide and ranked #1 on September 23. It currently ranks #1 globally as of writing.
