Plenty of problems may have been brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, but amid the chaos, there is also some good news to look forward to. One of which is that SSS members who lost their jobs recently, may avail of the unemployment benefit, which is equal to their 1-month salary credit.

Returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and kasambahays may also avail of the SSS unemployment benefit.
Head of Public Affairs and Special Events Division of SSS Fernando Nicolas also emphasized during a discussion on Unang Hirit, that the unemployment benefit may be availed by workers even if there's no pandemic, as this aims to help those who have been involuntarily separated from the company they work for, in general.
Also, according to Nicolas, laid-off workers may receive the unemployment cash benefit five days after applying for it.
Take note, however, that those who are self-employed and are voluntary members of SSS cannot avail of the said cash benefit.
To avail of the SSS unemployment cash benefit, you need to present two things
1) Certification from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), which verifies that you were involuntarily separated from the company you worked for
2) Your savings account

For those looking for new jobs, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) also has good news for you.
They have recently announced that there are currently 8,000 job openings in two companies in the country.
So, even if the pandemic has been extremely rough for many Filipino workers, there are glimmers of hope on the horizon.
