Paulo Avelino looks back, and forward, to 'StarStruck' as he becomes one the new hosts of the successful reality artista search.
This November, isang bagong avenue of stardom ang papasukin ni Paulo Avelino--ang mundo ng hosting--as he becomes one of the four hosts of 'StarStruck Update.' Text and Photos by Jason John S. Lim. "Isa na namang opportunity ang nag-open para sa akin at sa career ko." That's how Paulo Avelino sees his new project as one of the four hosts ng StarStruck Update that will soon air weekdays on GMA. "Excited [ako] kasi first time kong magho-host ulit after ng Startalk e." He continues, "at saka ito, hindi na play-time na parang sa Startalk; it's a different way of hosting, it's a different attack—ayun." "Sobrang excited na talaga akong mag-StarStruck." Tinanong namin si Paulo kung may memorable moments ba siya sa show, when he was still a contestant, at maliban daw sa bonding time niya with his batch mates, dalawa daw ang tumatak talaga sa isip niya: "pinaka-grabe talaga 'yung sampal ni [Ms. Jean Garcia], tsaka 'yung naka-ilang take sa Kiss Flicks namin ni Jesi Corcuera. "First kiss niya daw ako e—nagulat ako." Bilang isa sa mga active StarStruck alumni, we asked Paulo kung ano ba ang nagbago after their Final Judgment night. "Life after StarStruck is sobrang iba." He shares na while in StarStruck parang naglalaro lang daw sila ng mga ibang contenders. "Hindi mo pa mare-realize 'yung totoong world ng showbiz habang nasa loob ka. It happens when you come out, doon pa lang magsisimula 'yung mundo." But he does admit na malaki ang naitulong ng StarStruck in preparing him for his entry sa world of showbiz. "Madaming klase ng challenges na ini-improve 'yung different kinds of skills [mo]." He cites that he was able to host, act, dance and sing sa competition; "doon nakikita kung hanggang saan 'yung maibibigay mo, 'yung galing mo sa isang larangan." At bilang isang product rin ng StarStruck, Paulo hopes to be an inspiration sa bagong batch of hopefuls na sasalang sa StarStruck V. "Nanggaling rin ako sa mga tests—so siguro magiging inspiration sa kanila na makikita ka na active sa showbiz." Tip lang ni Paulo para sa new batch na papasok, "’wag sila magpapasaway!" At hindi pa man nagsisimula ang StarStruck, Paulo imparts his philosophy sa mga magiging products ng parating na season ng reality artista search: "Just be yourself," he begins. "Be kind to everyone, at kahit anong mangyari ‘wag niyong papapasukin 'yung pagka-sikat na feeling sa ulo. Keep your feet on the ground, treat everyone, kahit sino, kahit staff pa ‘yan, kahit crew, kahit utility—treat them as equals and you'll go a long way." Malapit na malapit na ang StarStruck V!
