Gloria Romero

Happy Birthday, Lola Goreng!

Today is a special day for showbiz legend and our favorite lola on TV, the great Gloria Romero. She marks her “glorious” birthday this Wednesday, December 16. She is now 87 years old.

Veteran entertainment columnist and Startalk host Ricky Lo penned a sweet message for the showbiz gem on Instagram.

Ricky also lauded Tita Gloria's impeccable talent as an actress.

He posted, “Here's a thousand roses for GLORIA ROMERO who is celebrating her birthday today (Dec. 16). Happy, Happy Birthday to one of the most beautiful faces to ever grace the silver screen. A great actress, a loving/lovable lady, as pure as the characters she breathes life into. Cheers!!!”

The great Gloria Romero

Gloria Romero was born in 1933 to a Filipino father Pedro Galla and Spanish-American mother Mary Borrego Miller.

She is one of the greatest treasures of the defunct production company Sampaguita Pictures that churned out several classic films from the 1940's to the 1960's.

According to a Philippine Star report in 2004, Gloria had to do eight films a year under her Sampaguita contract and some of her favorites include Hindi Basta-basta, Kurdapya, and Miss Tilapia.

In 2018, Gloria Romero blew past her competition in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), when she won Best Actress for the LGBT-themed movie Rainbow's Sunset.

Fellow Kapuso celebrities Dennis Trillo and Max Collins also won in the 2018 MMFF. Dennis bagged the Best Actor trophy, while Max received the Special Jury Prize.

During the awarding ceremony, Ms. Gloria said, “Nanginginig ako. What a pleasant surprise. Alam n'yo napaka-gandang regalo nito, pamasko ko na ito. Salamat po.”

She added, “Hindi ko akalain sa edad kong 85 years old, makakatanggap pa ako ng ganitong award.”

Gloria Romero can be regularly seen in her high-rating weekly magical anthology Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko every Sunday night on GMA-7.

She plays the role of our lovable fairy Lola Goreng, who shares a heartwarming magical story with her apos.

In January of this year, GMANetwork.com got exclusive access to the taping of Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko, which was shot in Gloria's home in New Manila, Quezon City.

The taping marks the return of Tita Gloria to the show, after taking a break for some months.

The great showbiz legend has done several big projects with her home network, GMA-7, including: Kambal Karibal (2017), Meant To Be (2017), Juan Happy Love Story (2016), and The Rich Man's Daughter (2015).
