She arrives at the set in a loose white shirt and knee-length shorts. The weariness on her face is overshadowed by her bright smile. She has not been home for a couple of days as she juggles time between her shows "Bakekang" and "Super Twins", and yet, her enthusiasm to keep going still remains. Text by Jessa Ericka C. Bien. After wowing audiences with her unexpected portrayal of the rebellious
Lorraine in
Bakekang,
StarStruck 1 Avenger Nadine Samonte
returns to the primetime block as Super T, a teen heroine and alter-ego of
the meek child Tin-tin.
Transforming Nadine into a beautiful super heroine was relatively fast,
and after a little wait, we saw the wonder that was Super T.
We watch as the hairstylist toys with Nadine’s curly locks and the make-up
artists play with colors to make the already pretty Nadine prettier.
Different cool, metallic shades were used to color her eyes. The floral
design of her intricate face paint, likewise, were colors that matched her
costume.
As Super T, Nadine dons a blue sailor costume and matching blue
accessories, a scepter, a tiara, a pair of ribbons, earrings and boots
that give the perfect feel of a childlike and “kikay” heroine.
Unlike her fraternal twin Sha-sha, who becomes Super S (Jennylyn Mercado),
Super T gets to show off her stomach.
Asked why her costume was designed this way, Nadine replies with a bashful
laugh. “Hindi ko rin alam eh” she says. Director Dominic Zapata comes to
her rescue and says, “para maipakita ‘yung asset ni Nadine.”
Almost an Action Star
Nadine is all smiles when she says she likes the role best as “hindi siya
drama. Action na siya.”
“Pinaka-challenging siguro ‘yung mga fight scenes” she shares when asked
how her new show puts her to test. As she and other co-stars do most of
the stunts themselves, they had to undergo taekwondo and capoiera
training. Shooting fight scenes are demanding sometimes, as they learn
the choreography only on the day of the shoot.
Almost like an action star, Nadine admits she watched Halle Berry’s
Catwoman to get some tips on how to properly perform stunts with
power, poise and grace. “(Pero) siyempre, dapat may uniqueness ka” she
says, and goes on saying that she tries to incorporate what she sees and
learns and makes it her own.
Having Fun
Nadine also admits having a great time with the cast of
Super Twins
. Having been with Jennylyn Mercado in StarStruck and Dennis Trillo in
Etheria , she says she has no problems working with them. Plus, it
is a bonus to be working with the ever-lively Direk Dom.
“Ang kulit (ni Direk Dom)” she claims with a hearty chuckle. “Laging
gising, hindi natutulog. Para siyang taong laging hyper.”
Direk Dom is her complete contrast as she confesses to sleeping whenever
she has a chance. “Kunwari lunch break, makikita mo ‘ko, tulog. Dinner
break, tulog din. Nagiging tulugin nga ako ngayon sa set” she admits.
As
Super Twins keeps on soaring and the viewers show more
appreciation, Nadine continues to enjoy her work and new role more.
