DC Comics' current Superman, Jon Kent, comes out as bisexual in an upcoming comic book

Readers looking for more LGBTQ+ representation in their comic books are in for a treat as the upcoming November 9 issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El has the current Superman coming out as bisexual.

In the current comic book continuity, Clark Kent's son, Jon Kent, is the Superman of Earth as his father is out in space in the current Action Comics run. And just like his father before him, Jon finds himself falling in love with another reporter, his college friend Jay Nakamura.

Tom Taylor, who is the writer behind Superman: Son of Kal-El, expressed his gratitude towards DC and Warner Bros. for allowing this story to be told.

“Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics,” he said.

Jim Lee, DC's chief creative officer and publisher, was also positive about the new storyline, saying that they could not be prouder to tell this story.

“We talk a lot about the power of the DC Multiverse in our storytelling and this is another incredible example. We can have Jon Kent exploring his identity in the comics as well as Jon Kent learning the secrets of his family on TV on Superman & Lois. They coexist in their own worlds and times, and our fans get to enjoy both simultaneously,” he said.
