Hindi man siya naging Ultimate Sole Survivor, Rob Sy is still glad for being runner-up. He admits that his salesmanship helped get through and achieve the goals he set while in the island. Nang makausap ng iGMA.tv si Rob Sy, who was one of the final two castaways, he was brimming with happiness having gone through this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We asked him kung ano ang reason behind attaining what he considers as his real goal of becoming one of the two finalists. "You need to believe in yourself," sagot niya. "Well, sa umpisa pa lang, 'yun naman talaga, 'di ba? In the first place, hindi naman ako makukuha as one of the finalists or 18 castaways if didn't believe in myself, right? Second, siguro yung pinaka-lesson that I have learned ay ang pinag-uusapan namin ni JC (Tiuseco) ay yung pagtitiwala. "Trust is very important. And also, the essence of ‘yung tinatawag na friendship ba. Kasi, I could have easily chosen Charisse (Yacapin) over JC eh, 'di ba? Siguro, hindi 'yun, eh. So pinahalagahan ko 'yung pagkakaibigan namin and pinanindigan ko kung ano 'yung pinangako ko and look at him now," dagdag ni Rob Kanyang ina-attribute din ang experience niya sa marketing: "That's why I was able to sell myself then, and through it, 'yun nga—they trusted me, but then again they (the other castaways) were blinded. 'Di ba?" Therefore, we can say then that what Rob has set out to achieve, kanyang nakuha. But did his stay in the island teach him anything new? "Naging mas good boy ako, kasi minsan, dati medyo maainitin ulo natin, konting ano lang nakikipagtalo, 'di ba? Medyo ano tayo, hindi tayo conscious sa galaw [dati], eh. Kung baga, ano lang tayo, kung anu-ano, but now it's medyo naging finesse ng kaunti, kung meron man," patawang kuwento ni Rob. He also got to have an appreciation of the entertainment business.
