
Another Filipino wins a gold for the Philippines in an international competition. This time, Pinay athlete Tachiana Mangin won a gold medal in the World Taekwondo Junior Championship held in South Korea recently.
Tachiana won in the Female's 49kg division against Hyang-gi Kim of South Korea for the gold medal. Meanwhile Aiuna Menkenova of Authorized Neutral Athletes and Lamprini Asimaki of Greece were in the third and fourth places respectively.
Tachiana is the first Filipina to have ever won the competition and is the first podium finish in the last 28 years. The last podium finish was made by Alex Borromeo in 1996 when he won the competition in Barcelona, Spain.

On her Instagram account, Tachiana wholeheartedly thanked her supporters and everyone who congratulated her on her win.
“Paumanhin kung hindi ko po maisa isa lahat ng bumati ngunit nakikita ko po ito at nagpapasalamat. Maraming salamat po sa Panginoon, sa Philippine Taekwondo Association sa pamumuno ni Grandmaster Sung Chon Hong, Sir Rock, PSC, POC,” she captioned her post.
She also thanked the Philippine National Team coaches. Tachiana also thanked her University of Sto Tomas Taekwondo family in her post, as well as her teammates, family, friends, and her parents “who have sacrificed a lot for me.”
“I love you both,” Tachiana wrote for them.
She then finished her post with a promise, “Gagawin ko ang aking makakaya upang patuloy na manalo para sa Pilipinas.”
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art focused on using kicks. Former Black Rider actor and Makati's First District Representative Monsour del Rosario is one of the most well-known practitioners of the martial art in the Philippines.
