Mauricio. On Ernie “Jay Ilagan is a very good actor,” Carlo Aquino begins as we talk about his new show Maging Akin Ka Lamang. The young actor shares that for his role as Ernie Balboa, he has taken many nuances from the original actor, learned it, and incorporated it to the character he’s now making his own: from the impatient taping of his feet to the rare change of facial expressions. Carlo describes Ernie as passive, “hinahayaan niya munang sa iba mapunta (ang gusto niya).” Unlike his previous character, Oscar from Sinasamba Kita, who is a little aggressive when it comes to what he wants, Carlo says Ernie is very different. Though he also says that a point will come where Ernie won’t be as passive as he is now, but “nandoon pa rin ‘yung breeding, (kahit) kung anu-ano na ang nagagawa niya.” Carlo admits that every person have different interpretations for a character. But for his turn as Ernie, so far, he hasn’t heard anything negative. “So far, wala namang sinasabit si Direk Gil (Tejada) na kulang or anything. So siguro happy siya. “Hindi ko alam kung paano ko nagagawa,” he admits. On the ladies of Maging Akin Ka Lamang Carlo shares that he has worked with Nadine Samonte for numerous instances already: in Maynila and once in Q Channel 11’s My Guardian Abby. And he believes that the young actress is very good, “Alam kong kayang-kaya niya ‘yung role.” Nadine plays the main protagonist of the soap, Elsa Paruel. Carlo also had nothing but good words for his own partner, Isabel Oli. “So far, magaling.” “Kasi si Tita (Lorna Tolentino), mahusay ‘yung pagkaganap niya sa role,” he explains. Carlo says that so far, Isabel has delivered and surpassed the expectations of everyone. He notes that the way Isabel carries herself and moves shows that she really learned the role. “Kasi doon mo makikita kung talagang inaral niya: ‘yung tayo, ‘yung pagsasalita.
