This versatile actor returns on Zaido, the newest and hottest telefantasya in the galaxy.
The last time we saw Ian De Leon was when he played the loving father of Super S and Super T on Super Twins. Today, this versatile actor returns on Zaido, the newest and hottest telefantasya in the galaxy. Text by Alula Love M. Dela Cruz. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. As chief commanding officer of the Galactic Force, Ian’s character has one of the most important roles in the series. “Unang-una, kakaiba pangalan ko. Good guy and authoritative figure ako dito,” he says. Aside from commanding the space ship Avilo, Ian also plays the father and mentor of the Zaidos. In the first part of the series, he will train the first Zaido, Gallian, who will be played by Dennis Trillo. Ian clarifies that his role doesn’t have any magical powers like those of the heroines in Encantadia and Super Twins: “Commander lang talaga ako na may special fighting skills na involved.” Like the rest of the cast, Ian had to go through fight training. “Mga usual fight scenes, arnis, simulating swords tapos mga kaunting flip. Basically, physical training,” he explains. But Ian admits that with his costume, he might not have the liberty of having action sequences all the time. Ian feels fortunate that he is given interesting roles that challenge his versatility as an actor: “Hindi ako mag-coconcentrate sa isang field lang, gusto ko iba’t-iba.” In his previous role on Super Twins, Ian played a normal human father in dire need of love from his children, and it was more of a dramatic piece rather than a hero role. When we ask him how he feels being given a role that he’s never done before, he answers, “Sarap. I mean I’m open to different kinds of characters and roles na pwedeng ibato sa akin.” Aside from playing his first hero role, another thing that keeps Ian enthusiastic about this new project is being able to work with some of his fellow cast members from Super Twins—Dennis, Melissa, and Direk Dom. “Masarap kasi mag-kakasama ulit kami. Si Direk Dom kwela yun, kaya ‘tong taping na ‘to, siguradong masaya.” We also learned that Ian is one of the liveliest people around when on the set. Melissa Avelino herself can attest to that after she worked with him in their Super Twins days: “Si Ian, makulit talaga yun.” So what can we expect from this showbiz royalty, now that he’s playing the role of leader and guru of the most respected police organization in the galaxy? “Ulirang father, parang na-establish ako na ganoon tapos ganito, so may shift na silang makikita.” Be sure to catch Commander Zion on Zaido, weeknights before Mari Mar.
