What are the risks that involve wearing DIY braces?

Everyone wants to have pearly white teeth and a killer smile--but at what cost?

Having crooked teeth takes more than just a few trips to the dentist to fix. Most young people with uneven teeth or a misaligned bite need to wear dental braces, and this treatment process takes years to complete and can also be costly.

Aside from the promise of perfectly aligned teeth, young people wear dental braces as a fashion statement. But this can cost around P15,000 to P50,000.

In Angeles, Pampanga, a store offers a kit including metal braces and a rubber wire for making your own dental braces which you can wear even without a dentist.

19-year-old Renz Penados tried the DIY braces using a nail cutter and super glue to attach the brace onto his teeth. It didn't take long for Renz to start feeling pain in his teeth. Worrying for his safety, he removed the brace.

For the price of P2,500, you can buy a kit of DIY braces online, but what are the health risks that involve wearing one?
