The Devil Wears Prada reunion

Cast members reminisce about the movie and reflects on its enduring legacy.

An online reunion or a virtual work meeting?

The cast and crew of the 2006 hit film, The Devil Wears Prada, got together to mark the movie's 15th anniversary.

Entertainment Weekly organized the get together led by main stars Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestly), Anne Hathaway (Andy Sachs), and Emily Blunt (Emily).

They were joined by Adrian Grenier (Nate), Stanley Tucci (Nigel), and director David Frankel.

Also attending the virtual chat were costume designer Patricia Field, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and Lauren Weisberger, author of “The Devil Wears Prada" novel.

Model Gisele Bündchen was also present.

“I think the reason that [the film] has stayed with us and landed is because it hit at a particular moment in time--the discomfort with women being boss people had to figure out, because we weren't gonna go away,” said Streep.

“This is the first movie I've ever had … that men have come up to me and said, 'I know how you feel.'”

Tucci mused how the film broke barriers and shifted perspectives generally, not just in the workplace.

“Our society has conditioned women to see the world through men's eyes so often, and particularly in cinema and literature. And this [film] started to make that change.”

Hathaway said that she never felt intimidated by Streep, contrary to what her character projected on screen.

“I always felt cared for. I knew that whatever she was doing to create that fear, I appreciated [because] I also knew she was watching out for me,” the actress said.

Blunt agreed with Hathaway, saying about the veteran actress, “Meryl is so gregarious and fun as hell, in some ways it wasn't the most fun for her having to remove herself.

“It wasn't like she was unapproachable; You could go up to her and say, 'Oh my God, the funniest thing just happened,' and she'd listen, but I don't know if it was the most fun for her to be on set being that way.”

As for the possibility of a sequel, Frankel was quick to put the issue to rest.

“We really felt like, no, this story has been told,” he commented.

The Devil Wears Prada was a big commercial success when it hit US theaters in June 2006.

“A rare film that surpasses the quality of its source novel, this Devil is a witty expose of New York's fashion scene, with Meryl Streep in top form and Anne Hathaway more than holding her own,” the review website Rotten Tomatoes said about the movie.
