He has hosted quite a number of shows and has been in and out of the Kapuso network several times. But what the viewers remember most about Arnel Ignacio was his stint at GMA’s interactive game show, Gobingo, where his reputation as a sharp and quick-witted game master began. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio Gobingo hit the boob tube in 1996 and stayed on the air for almost three years. During this time, Arnel Ignacio became a household name. Viewers were amazed at how this cheery and fast-talking personality brought much needed diversion to our afternoons. This month, Gobingo will once again be seen on national television with a bigger and much more interactive twist to the game. But something of the old show still had to be retained to preserve its originality. And what better way to do this than bring back its original game master, Arnel Ignacio? Go, Arnel! “Malaki ang pasasalamat ko kila Ma’am Wilma at kay Atty. Gozon, kasi definitely with the size of GMA now, kayang-kayang gawin ng network na sila ang mamili [ng host] at kung ano 'yung kulang noon, pwede nilang punan, and yet ako 'yung binigyan nila ng chance. So maraming, maraming salamat talaga,” announced Arnel during the show’s press conference. He also said that this is a new Gobingo and yet the elements we loved about the show when it first aired in the ‘90s are still present in the revival. Arnel then thanked the network for recognizing his contribution to Gobingo before and explained that this time in the show, his personality will be highlighted even more. “This is a very dynamic show. Talagang naka-rely sa iyo kung papano mo gagawing masaya, dahil tanungan lang naman ng tanungan ito. So you have to be very, very quick sa mga reactions mo sa mga tao,” Arnel said. Truly, no host fits the bill more than this award-winning game master. Ready to Gobingo Excited to begin his new show, Arnel acknowledges the fact that Gobingo gave him a new lease in his career. He doesn’t mind that he has to tape five episodes in a day or the other taxing responsibilities that a daily show requires. Arnel also made a promise that upon his return to the game show arena, he will do his best to entertain both studio contestants and home viewers. “Abangan ninyong lahat dahil araw-araw ito, masaya!
