After everything they went through with the Idol hopefuls, the three jurors name their choices for first-ever Pinoy Idol.
Last Sunday on the Idol stage, before the actual eliminations started, Raymond Gutierrez put the judges on the spot and asked for their fearless forecast. After everything they went through with the Idol hopefuls--nationwide auditions, tedious and heartbreaking eliminations, and months of patient mentoring, the three jurors name their choices for first-ever Pinoy Idol. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez. Photos courtesy of GMA Network and Jason Lim A few minutes before the Final Three was proclaimed, Ogie Alcasid, Jolina Magdangal, and Wyngard Tracy announced who they thought deserved to be the very first Pinoy Idol. While they all have their own reasons for choosing a particular contestant, one thing's for sure--they want the winner to be absolutely worthy of the title. Fearless forecast The judges have seen everything and have been with the Idol hopefuls ever since the start of the competition. They may have agreed on picking some of the same contestants, but most of the time they have their own bets—which, as Ogie Alcasid said during the final elimination night, have all come and gone. stars “I’ve had many bets but wala na sila. So if I have to choose now, for me it's Kid [Camaya]” was Ogie’s bold prediction. He might've picked Kid because out of the five remaining contestants that final gala night, he was the only one with a solid performance. Unfortunately, Kid was eliminated. Jolina Magdangal, a true believer of Ram Chaves’s talent ever since he made it to the Top 24, simply said, “Rock and Roll! Ram!” There's a chance her bet might make it, since Ram is part of the Final Three. The terror juror, Wyngard Tracy, on the other hand, said, “It’s Jayann” without telling Raymond or the audience why he chose the petite singer from Pampanga. Jayann also took another spot in the final roster of three. Ready for Asian Idol? There's a big possibility that the winner of Pinoy Idol will represent the country in Asian Idol. We asked the judges if they thought any of the finalists were ready for this prestigious contest. stars“Tingin ko meron naman pwedeng lumaban," Jolina said. "Parang hindi naman sayang lahat. Hindi porket natanggal na 'yung mga bet ko, wala na akong bilib sa mga ito. Ayoko namang isarado 'yung isip ko at kalooban ko, kasi meron eh, meron naman, pero kailangan lang bago siya lumaban, buo 'yung loob nya, buo 'yung alam niya na kakayahan nya, at hindi ‘yun overnight. Dapat hasain ‘yun ng todo.” Jolina was always the most emotional of the judges whenever one of her favorites got eliminated. Wyngard, however, didn't mention who he thought was capable of representing the Philippines in Asian Idol, but he did ask that viewers vote wisely: “Piliin natin 'yung pinaka-magaling, 'yung pinaka-okay kasi nakasalalay ang integridad natin dito.” Will the viewers heed Wyngard’s appeal? We'll know once the results of the votes are announced in Pinoy’s Idol’s Finals Night, which will happen on Sunday, August 17. So who among these judges’ bets will bring home the title? It's all up to you. Meet the very first Pinoy Idol! Watch the finals live at the SM Mall of Asia or catch it live on Sunday right after Kap’s Amazing Stories.
