In the finale week of 'Dyesebel', Marian Rivera opens up about the challenges of donning the mermaid suit. Just how was the experience of being a mermaid? Find out from Marian herself! Text by Jason John S. Lim; with Interviews and Photos by Jillian Q. Gatcheco.
There are two locations for the mermaid Dyesebel, not counting the many times she transformed above land in Fredo's and Donya Guada's houses, and those are the on-location beaches and the studio where the underwater kingdom of Serenea is shot.
And
Marian Rivera reveals, "mahirap magbuntot [sa] studio."

"Kita mo naman 'yung kapaligiran, mainit talaga." The actress is yet to wear her mermaid costume for that day, but she has so much to say about it already. "Pag hubad mo ng buntot mo, para kang pinaksiw talaga!"
Marian adds though that when that happens, no one pays attention. "Lahat kami ganun, so dedmahan na lang kami kung gaano kami kapawisan dito," she laughs.
But, she says that though being a mermaid at the studio is hard, it's no harder than having to be a mermaid underwater, "kasi hindi biro 'yun eh."
It has been
reported previously that Marian had to wear weights to make her less buoyant in the water; a few months later and Marian is now begging off the weights. "Minsan hindi ako nagpapalagay, kasi mas gusto ko na ako 'yung bumababa. Kasi kapag nalulunod ka na, wala na eh.
"Pag may weights ka, hindi ka aangat agad." So she has to rely on
the training she went through for the role, which she says is "sobrang laking tulong."
It also helps that she's used to her costume now, "sanay na sanay na." What she's still not used to though is how hot it is inside the costume—and the rashes she gets whenever she has to wear it.
"Nag-cycling [shorts] kasi ako, siguro sa sobrang tagal, na-irritate 'yung [skin ko.]" Marian says that since then, she stopped wearing cycling shorts and followed her co-actress,
Jean Garcia’s, example. "Nagle-leggings na ako. Kasi sobrang na-irritate na siya, sobrang butlig-butlig na siya—ang kati pa! So wala na akong choice kundi mag-[leggings] kahit mainit.
"Sabi ko, tiis-ganda na lang."

That said, Marian says she doesn't mind wearing the tail when they're in the waters. According to her, she doesn't get rashes when they're at the water because the water cools them down—and because water goes in their waistlines and goes out of their tails. "Medyo nalilinis dahil [doon]. May butas 'yun eh."
And like in any other challenges, Marian reveals that the secret to prevailing is having the best companions who are going through the same thing: her fellow mermaids and mermen!
"Pinaka-close ko—Diyos ko 'no, obvious naman—si Ate Lotlot [de Leon] at si Bukanding (Paolo Ballesteros)." But
the whole Serenea gang is close-knit, she adds. "Sila Erebus (
And for that, she says that she is thankful.
In the finale week of
Mars Ravelo's Dyesebel, many things will still happen. Dyesebel has reached the point that she has given up on Fredo (Dingdong Dantes), "talagang ayoko nang ipagpalit 'yung buntot ko para sa kanya," but as per all fairy tales, fans should still expect a happy ending.
Or as per GMA soaps, fans should still expect a wedding-ending. To which Marian asks, "ang tanong: Saan kami ikakasal? O 'di ba?"
