After more than a month of performing on stage Dr. Manny Calayan has proven that he is indeed a contender to reckon with in the Celebrity Duets competition. Consistently garnering enough votes to qualify for the next elimination round, the doc is slowly building his confidence and performing better on TV. The Surgeon A recipient of the Most Outstanding Cosmetic and Laser Surgeon award by the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines, Dr. Manny specializes in cosmetic surgery such as nose lifts, liposuction, breast enlargement, and other cosmetic procedures. An active fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons, and the Philippine Society of Liposuction Surgery, Inc., he has built his name through his devotion and incessant pursuit of making Filipinos look and feel better about their selves. With big names in showbiz as clients, including Richard Gutierrez, Pia Guanio, Rufa Mae Quinto, Alessandra de Rossi, Dr. Manny established a reputation as a doctor of the stars. The Singer “Iba 'yung fulfillment ko sa pagiging doktor at iba rin 'yung singing career ko,” declares the singing doctor after performing on national TV for more than six weeks. He has sang and performed with Brenan Espatinez, Karel Marquez, Rachel Alejandro, Faith Cuneta. Allan K and Keempee de Leon. There’s noticeable improvement in his performance as he slowly got the hang of singing in front of national TV. This was quite far from the nervous doctor we have talked to during the press conference of Celebrity Duets a few weeks back. Even the judges of the show have noticed the big difference in Dr. Manny’s performance. “I enjoyed it. I honestly enjoyed it. You were relaxed and you were enjoying yourself. And it is a fun song. You have the license to falter a bit with your notes because it is a novelty number so you can get away with it. I enjoyed it,” says Louie Ocampo after the doc’s duet with Allan K. Mitch Valdez on the other hand said that “This is the most relaxed I’ve seen you and the song fits you. Congratulations!” Truly, a new singing doctor is born.
