It's finally happening. After a few hiccups, the much-anticipated musical series, Still, will see the light of day through the streaming platform Viu.
The eight-episode musical narrative series tells the story of a group of artists stranded in a music camp during the pandemic.
Isolated and stuck in the company of each other, friendship blooms along with the journey to self-discovery, all happening with music serving as the backdrop every step of the way.
To pull of the musical, the team behind the project assembled a star-studded cast of singers and performers.
Part of the cast members are well-known singers Bituin Escalante, Christian Bautista, and Julie Anne San Jose.
During a recent virtual press conference, Bituin described her character, Anette Carreon, as someone who “hits close to home,” whose life closely resembles any artists with the shifting highs and lows.
This is the same for Christian Bautista, who took on the role of Nikolas in the series.
“Medyo pareho [personality] 'yong sa akin to the point na iniisip ko ni-research ba nila 'yong buhay namin?” smiled Christian.
The singer dubbed as Asia's Romantic Balladeer cited empathy as the trait that he shares the most with Nikolas.
“Like gusto ko sana lahat okay. Kapag merong isang grupo na alam kong medyo namumumroblema 'yung isa, I'll go to that person and see what I can do to make that person feel a bit better,” he said.
For Julie Anne, Still is a different challenge altogether given the project's theatrical nature.
“First time ko na magkaroon ng ganitong klaseng role and I just wanted to say na never pa ko nakagawa ng ganitong project,” shared Julie Anne.
“I mean not to discredit my previous roles na nagawa ko na before but this one is really different from the past ones.”
Julie Anne took note that there are some contradictions between her and her character Laura Ramirez in Still.
She described Laura as “tough” and someone who “can be quite a handful” because of her life experiences.
“But deep inside she's very loving and caring. Even the way she dresses up, parang 'yon yung armor niya to show everyone that she's fearless, she's not afraid of anything.”
Julie Anne added, “But we actually do have some things in common, like we both fight for what we want for our dreams, for our families.”
Also part of the cast of Still is Gab Pangilinan who was seen in the musicals such as Ang Huling El Bimbo, Rak of Aegis, Side Show, and Mula sa Buwan.
Making up the production team are “Tala” songwriter Nica Del Rosario, Palanca awardee Pat Valera, and esteemed director Treb Monteras.
