Catch her in 'Ilawod' and 'Sakaling Hindi Makarating,' now showing in theaters nationwide.
"Sinabi ni sir Philbert Dy 'nung ni-review niya 'yung Ilawod, 'Therese Malvar continues to be one of the best actresses in the country, regardless of age.' So grabe, it's very flattering," Therese Malvar can't help but gush when she remembered the high praise given to her by professional film critic Philbert Dy.
And it's difficult not to agree with Philbert Dy; with numerous local and international awards under her belt, Therese has proven time and time again that she can act with the best of them. Despite all the praise, she maintains that she has much to learn when it comes to her craft.
"I'm just doing what I love and to be recognized by critics and the like, very flattering siya and overwhelming. With the help of the directors that I've worked with, mas madami pa 'yung nale-learn ko [such as] acting is beyond crying," Therese admitted in an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com
In the Dan Villegas-directed horror flick Ilawod, Therese portrays the malevolent and sensual water spirit Isla and she shares scenes with Ian Veneracion and Iza Calzado.
Therese said that she found the role of Isla challenging, especially in exploring the sensual side of her character. But fortunately for Therese, her veteran cast-mates were there to help her.
According to the 17-year-old, "Direk Dan taught me na every touch has a meaning, pati 'yung catwalk ko, tinuro niya. Ate Iza taught me how to look, 'yung mata niya kasi magaling eh. Si Isla kasi sobrang self-confident, graceful, and slow at akala ko hindi ko nagagawa [iyon] ng mabuti but when I read the reviews, na-overwhelm ako kaya sobrang nagpasalamat ako kay Direk Dan at ate Iza."
Aside from Ilawod, Therese also appears on the film Sakaling Hindi Makarating which opens on select theaters today (February 1). So if you want to see one of the country's best actresses on film, be sure to catch Therese!
